So here in the UK, spring has sprang? sprung? springing? Oh forget it. Springtime is here, knocking on the door and it’s filling me with joy. Why? Because, I think now is the optimum time to start hacking our juggle; spring brings with it a renewed sense of optimism. There is much hope to had in spring. Nature kindly reminds us of the potential for growth and being resilient, whilst also encouraging patience with the process. Remember that folks, for things to bloom, take root, grow, evolve, we need patience. It’s worth the perseverance.
Get started
If you’re wondering how to start with sorting the juggle out, the best place to start is to have a think about how you are doing, I mean how are you really doing? Take some time to invest in looking at all areas in your life. Journal it, draw it, contemporary dance it - however you reflect is plenty good enough. Get reflecting. Think widely across your whole life, here’s some starter categories but add whatever is important to you:
Physical - e.g. sleep, nutrition, exercise, health.
Psychological - e.g. stimulating activities/hobbies, self awareness.
Home maintenance - e.g. tasks, daily cycles of jobs.
Relational - e.g. social networks, support, commitments.
Spiritual - e.g. inner needs, faith/no faith, connection with nature, sense of purpose.
Emotional - e.g. coping strategies, safeguarding well-being & contenment, addressing negativity.
Professional - e.g. challenges, work stress, burnout, joy, delegations, team.
Financial - e.g. income, debt, aspirations, mindset.
Get rating
With each aspect you’ve identified - how’s it going? I mean really, how’s it going?! Take some time to rate each areas you’ve identified. Rate it however makes sense for you: out of 10 perhaps, colour code it, what type of weather would you assign to it? Whatever works and makes sense for you. This will help you get an understanding of the most important areas that need some attention and also where in your life things are ticking along nicely.
Get going
Whoa, wait a minute. Before you go trying to tackle everything, everywhere, all at once, let’s not set you up to fail. Keep it simple. One thing at a time! Start with one and the build up. Out of everything you have identified, what is the most important to you? What small, achieve changes or additions can you do to address the areas that need the most attention? What 10 minute change can you add in everyday to start addressing the thing that’s at the top of your list?
Then, time to get a ‘juggle-buddy’. Talk to someone about it. Why? Well, truly useful reflection and commitment to change is about sharing and engaging with another perspective and being accoutable. So find someone that you trust, and ask them to be your ‘juggle’ buddy. Seek out a coach, if that’s useful. I know loads of great coaches, so shout me if I can help you find your way.
Get reviewing
Set time aside in your diary to review how you’re doing. A month from now could help. What will tell you that you’re on the right track? What changes will you see, feel, notice?
The review is the moment for you to take stock, see what needs more, what needs less and what you may need extra support with.
